Nothing can heal me like a moonlit highway. Light beams off pavement in the distance and I’m whole again. My father always said, if you’re ever lost, signs pointing south will lead you home. I follow this like a promise- now and forever. The road will never scare me. Beneath it holds the dust from which I came. It’s where the core of the earth hums gently. It’s the former heartbeat of what God created before they paved over it without a care. But I’ll still use these same roads to find home. Take me to the sound of my mother’s voice as she calms me from miles away. Take me to my fathers smile and my sisters comfort. Take me to the moments where I swore a piece of heaven touched the earth and let me live in it for a while. Let the endless highway carry me south.
