You said your bones were burning. I saw embers in your eyes. Ghosts are lonely and you are too so I wonder which parts of you died long ago – maybe they’re coming back with a vengeance. It’s like you’re haunting yourself as a form of penance. Let’s all take a deep breath and crumble some more. You’re burning like a fever and nothing can stop it. I keep thinking about what the ashes will make of you. Can you rise like a phoenix? I know you have guts. After all, you welcome your own ghost even as it rattles you to the core. You wear it like a fucking veil. And when we ask you to find peace those ghosts grip their hands around your throat and whisper words like, “suffer”. So let them light sparks that turn into forest fires within you. Take the embers and tempt yourself into breaking free. Do what you must, just don’t ask me to watch. -AMT ©️
