How to stop being sad. Take it all and run. Repeat to yourself that nothing ever fully leaves you, it lingers as a permanent part of your spirit. Shatter the vases because flowers were supposed to be wild anyways. Ignore your friends. No one cares, right? Bite your tongue on sad words and taste the familiarity. You won’t choke on your own blood, I promise. Gather every birthday card you’ve ever received and light it all on fire- watch the penmanship of everyone who has ever loved you turn to embers. Watch as they float to the sky and let the feeling of permanence sink in. Watch it glow. Accept the part of the story that robbed you of the plot. Take those empty pages and bleed on them if you have to- just make sure you mark them. Own them. Become a piece of them. Grab a bottle of stolen vodka and let the sting feel like a sin. Muster up every ounce of guilt and sadness and anger and turn it into a story. Reverse the way you once knew how to heal. And ask yourself, how do you stop being sad? -AMT ©️
