Does the sound from the highway still put you to sleep? I see headlights flooding through my window. Watch as they drape over the shadows like they’re meant for that sort of thing. Sleep it off. Sleep the day away. Sleep until you feel worthy of standing up again. I wonder if you count the flashes in the dark like we used to- always told me it was just the reflection from the stars. I’m too clever to believe in such simplicity. I call those reflections pieces of my spirit that are coming forth in the night. You said the devil doesn’t wear a mask, he wears a smile- so I’ve been turning every corner with caution ever since. It’s not like Im afraid of everything, I’m just afraid of anything I don’t fully understand- like if those passing cars lose control and crash through my bedroom wall. If every screeching halt leads to some sort of fatality. If you can fully live if a part of you is dead. After all this time, I just wonder if the sounds from the highway still put you to sleep.
