it’s just a season, after all.

Tears only become real when they fall. What made you break? Tell me how deep it cut. Tell me how it haunts you. Tell me everything.

You have the same eyes as your sisters. You love loud like your mom. You have the same laugh as your father, but he’s in heaven now. Do you think he can still hear it from up there? And if Jesus is around, maybe he’ll give him my best. He’ll tell him that I wasn’t always this angry, it’s just a season, after all.

I don’t say much these days, but when I do it boils from my tongue and burns my lips. I’m not sure how to hold it, but I do. Sometimes I keep it behind my eyes to drown out memories that sting. Remind myself that tears only become real when they fall. -AMT©️
